Satsumas: A List Of Ways To Use Them
One of the reasons I really wanted this house was because of the huge satsuma tree planted near the door to the house. Every year it is teeming with fruit and this year is no exception. I want to make the most out of this years crop so have researched some ways in which to do so.
Marmalade
This is the most obvious so I’ll put it first. I did make a couple of batches last year of marmalade and will certainly make some more this year.
Flourless Satsuma Cake
The Domestic Goddess herself has come up with a fantastic satsuma cake. You can find the recipe here. This will make an excellent addition to Christmas I think. I don’t want to make it too often as apparently a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips, or something.
Orange and Clementine Juice
There are also several orange trees in the garden so a nice clementine and orange juice mixture is possible for breakfast.
St Clements and Lemon and Orange Squash
A similar theme to the juice, this squash recipe I’m sure can be adapted to include my glorious satsumas.
Christmas Decorations
You can cut slices of satsuma or orange and dry out in the oven. These can be hung on the tree or I’m sure used in other decorative ways that I’m yet to think of.
If anyone knows the difference between a satsuma, clementine and tangerine could they kindly let me know? I’ve pondered this for far too long.

My name is CB, I am 29 and live in Portugal. I work for myself online and being a British expat am of course transforming a crumbling farmhouse into my dream home!
All good ideas but nothing beats just eating them fresh from the tree. I tried making a clementine sorbet once which was good if not a little tart!
You are so right Sara – straight from the tree rocks!
